National Sleep Therapy Submits Innovation Challenge Proposal

Last week National Sleep Therapy submitted a 70-page proposal to the Centers for Medicare as part of the CMS Healthcare Innovation Challenge. The proposal detailed its plans for substantially expanding its current ECOsystem of patient care that empowers patients and more seamlessly brings together the patient, physician, and CPAP provider.

National Sleep Therapy has developed an ECOsystem of care that has demonstrated results showing that over 88% of its Medicare members are successful on therapy, far higher than the industry average of about 50%. This high rate of CPAP adherence saves Medicare substantial savings with reduced waste and by improving patient outcomes. Because many people with sleep apnea are also at risk for hypertension, diabetes and coronary disease, treated sleep apnea with therapies such as CPAP decreases these risks considerably.

Studies suggest that when people with sleep apnea use their CPAP regularly and their overall health and quality of life improves, and the spending by Medicare on each patient per year can be reduced by over $3,000. (Hoffman et al.)

The proposal submitted by National Sleep Therapy proposes the expansion of its ECOsystem and a potential yearly cost savings of over $3,000 per patient enrolled this comprehensive patient support ECOsystem. “We have already seen what a tremendous impact the ECOsystem has on the patient experience and quality of life,” says Eric Cohen, co-founder of National Sleep Therapy. “We’re excited to bring this system to the masses and have a more profound and dramatic effect on how healthcare is delivered in the US.”
